Social Responsibility
We believe that it is important to focus not only on economic returns but also focus on social impact. We live in a society riddled with social injustices and inequalities that continue to plague the lives of the disadvantaged because of previous, unjust social policies. This is why Ascension believes it is imperative to play an active role in the community around us and to make a positive difference in the lives of others, as this is our collective social responsibility.
Our impact is firstly through investing in sustainable businesses that can positively impact employees and the communities in which they operate. Ascension is committed to Environment, Social and Governance (“ESG”) and applies an ESG focussed lens throughout our investment process.
In addition to the above, we support organisations, including Botshabelo Children’s Home and Beulah Africa Foundation.
We are committed to the UN SDGs and recognise the significance of all 17 interconnected SDGs. Of particular importance is SDG 5: Gender Equality – Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. We support Bellona Women’s Network, which is a mobile-application based network that is geared towards women empowerment.
Ascension Accelerate Student Programme
Ascension has developed and implemented the Ascension Accelerate Student Programme, which provides opportunities to Historically Disadvantaged South African university students in their 3rd or 4th year of study.
The programme seeks to mentor, empower, upskill and give young people access to the private equity industry through vacation work, which is typically an industry that professionals only get access to later in their careers.
In this way, Ascension aims to impact young people’s lives and contribute to transformation in the industry.
